This morning while lounging in bed watching Gilmore Girls with my sick sweet daughter, I heard a knock at the door. It was a newish but dear friend who I was very happy to see, especially since she's been sick all week and I haven't gotten to hang out with her much lately. She gave me a gift of vintage gold silk thread on a wooden spool. I believe she said, "I brought you some magic thread." We drank some coffee and ate a scone and talked for a bit, as friends do, and then she left and Irie and I returned to The Gilmore Girls in all its awesomeness.
It didn't occur to me until tonight, as I held my gift lovingly in the palm of my hand, that some people wouldn't "get" this gift at all. They'd be like, "string, weird." And that made me a little sad. But it also cheered me to think that I have friends who know me enough to trust that I will recognize the beauty and the magic of such a gift. And then I was happy.
